Leading Naturopathic Physician at Bodhi Body Provides Arizonans with 10 Tips for Getting Back Into Shape and Beating "Fatigue" for 2010

Rejuvenation techniques are low-cost solutions that can be implemented now

Chandler, Ariz.December 31, 2009 – As 2009 comes to an end, Arizonans are finding it difficult to make time for themselves while facing mounting stress. During such times, people often choose to cut back; however, cutting back on your health and not taking simple precautionary measures, can often lead to devastating effects in the long run and chronic illnesses.

According to Dr. Heather Wdowin, leading naturopathic physician at Bodhi Body Integrative Medical Centers (http://www.bodhi-body.com), people need to take necessary health precautions so they won’t feel the devastating effects later.

“It might seem counterintuitive in this economy to ask people to take time for themselves, especially when it’s a necessity to work longer hours as well as harder,” says Dr. Wdowin. “However, a little prevention now can save a lot of worry later and there are simple things we all can do to immediately feel the health benefits.”

So what are the top 10 things one should do to make sure they are healthy for 2010? Dr. Wdowin explains:

  • Have your yearly physical and bloodwork done. This simple measure saves on any possible health concerns you might have later and a lot illnesses can be avoided with preventative medicine.
  • Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day. Knowing what your dinner plate should look like and simple changes in your diet can make big differences in your health and energy levels.
  • Avoid drinking coffee, soda, tea, or other caffeinated drinks all day.  Caffeinated beverages dehydrate you and make it harder to sleep at night.  So for every caffeinated drink, drink 2 glasses of water to compensate, especially since we live in the desert.
  • Exercise regularly. Stress reducing exercise such as yoga can help with overall energy and weight loss.
  • Cut down on the "bad" fats.  Reduce the amount of saturated fats and trans fatty acids in your diet in order to strengthen every cell in your body. Saturated fats are found in animal products such as meat and butter. Vegetable shortening, margarine, french fries, and processed foods contain trans fatty acids and partially hydrogenated oils. Cook with olive and canola oils which are anti-inflammatory and good for your heart.
  • Make sure your digestion is optimized.  Many digestive problems such as bloating, gas, constipation and acid reflux can be alleviated by taking the time to make sure your digestive system is working properly.  You can start by carefully chewing your food. Performing a food allergy panel, avoiding allergens, and adding in certain supplements can heal your gut, and help prevent disease.
  • Limit your intake of sugar.  Sugar is in essence white poison.  It increases triglycerides, cholesterol, and insulin, as well as paralyzes the immune system. Check food labels and look for hidden sugar such as corn syrup, sucrose, glucose, and lactose in order to avoid diabetes, heart disease and obesity.
  • Make relaxation a regular part of your life.  Stress kills.  It can lead to poor digestion, a weak immune system, high blood pressure, and many other chronic conditions.
  • Get a good night's sleep, naturally.  Restful sleep is essential for a fully functioning mind and body. Many people have trouble either getting to sleep or staying asleep without addictive prescriptions. There are natural alternatives to regulate your body's sleep and wake cycle to help you feel rested and have more energy.
  • Develop and nurture your support network.  Don't let life get in between you and those you love.  Make sure your priorities are straight for the upcoming year in order to nourish the relationships that feed our heart, mind, body, and soul.
