DIABETES TREATMENT

Approximately 10% of the population in the United States suffers from a form of diabetes. There are two types of diabetes, type 1
and type 2.

Type 1 diabetes is sometimes referred to as insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM), is a condition where the body attacks its own insulin producing cells (the beta cells of the islets of Langerhans), and is typically diagnosed before the age of twenty.

Type 2 diabetes accounts for almost 90% of diabetes cases in the United States and is a largely preventable disease with the modification of lifestyle choices. Many people with Type 2 diabetes produce enough insulin, yet their bodies no longer respond optimally to the action of the insulin. This may happen because the person is overweight and their insulin receptors are desensitizes from years of poor dietary and lifestyle choices.

The symptoms of type II diabetes can be so subtle that some people overlook them. Typically, extreme fatigue, typically 2-4 hours after a meal, change in weight, blurred vision, drowsiness, tingling or numbness in hands and/or feet, slow wound healing, unwarranted hunger, frequent urination, and excessive thirst can all be signs of blood sugar instability.

Over the past few decades we have seen an incredible increase in rates of obesity and diabetes type 2 in both the adult and pediatric populations. While diabetes occurs in people of all ages and races, some groups have a higher risk for developing type 2 diabetes. These groups of people include African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, and Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders.

It is understood in medicine that having type 2 diabetes increases a person’s risk for many other serious health complications. Some of these complications associated with type 2 diabetes includes: heart disease (cardiovascular disease), blindness (retinopathy), nerve damage (neuropathy), and kidney damage (nephropathy). Allow us to help you prevent and correct these complications not merely instruct you on how to cope with them.

What does the Body Mass Index (BMI) tell us about a persons diabetes risk?

Men with a BMI over 35 have 42 times the risk of developing diabetes.
Women with a BMI over 35 have 93 times the risk of developing diabetes.

At Bodhi Body Integrative Medical Centers we provide our type 2 diabetes patients with the best treatments and information available. There are many factors involved in the prevention, management, and reversal of diabetes and the associated diabetes symptoms that we address including insulin levels, glucose levels, diabetes diet, exercise, toxicity, nutritional status, and others.
